Minneapolis
A day of remembrance. One year after a shooter opened fire just before 8:30 a.m. at Annunciation's back-to-school Mass — a shooting that killed 10-year-old Harper Moyski and 8-year-old Fletcher Merkel — neighbors gathered at Pearl Park Thursday to volunteer and donate in the community's honor. A Minneapolis man is attempting a triple Ironman as part of a broader effort, with people across the Twin Cities and around the country raising money to support Annunciation students' mental health. First responders also shared their reckonings a year on: a Minneapolis SWAT officer ("That's never leaving my head"), a father and son who both answered the fire call, a police officer still asking "Did we do the right thing?", and an HCMC doctor who treated some of the most critically injured children. Residents of the surrounding south Minneapolis neighborhoods say they've banded together over the past year to support Annunciation families.
Data centers and NDAs. The City Council's unanimous ordinance on nondisclosure agreements and data centers now awaits Mayor Jacob Frey's signature. On a parallel track, the North Loop Neighborhood Association took another step to slow neighborhood data center plans, with board members signing a letter expressing frustration that Legacy Investing hasn't provided "meaningful information" about its proposal.
Violence. A man died after officers found him Friday morning in the driver's seat of a vehicle with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Separately, MPD is investigating the death of Abdiwahab A. Isse as a homicide — KSTP reports he was found dead in an apartment in July on a call initially reported as an overdose and deemed a "suspicious death."
