Good morning, Golden Valley! It’s a quiet start to the week here in the western suburbs, but there is plenty happening across the greater Twin Cities metro to keep you informed. Here is your daily digest for Monday, July 7, 2026.
Minneapolis
Public safety is a major focus today after a violent weekend in the city. Minneapolis police are investigating a string of overnight shootings that left one person dead and four others injured across four separate incidents spanning Saturday night into Monday morning. One fatal shooting occurred around 1:00 a.m. on the 300 block of Wilson Street, while a separate incident early Monday morning on the 1300 block of Water Street outside a recording studio left a 17-year-old boy and three men injured.
Traffic and water safety are also making headlines. A man suffered serious injuries Monday morning around 10:45 a.m. after allegedly running a red light and striking two cars in Minneapolis. Down at Minnehaha Falls, the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board is actively evaluating security measures after a teenager was pulled from the water in critical condition over the weekend.
In community news, a South Minneapolis restaurant is bringing the community together. Bûcheron will host a Bastille Day Block Party on July 12, featuring live music, exclusive menus, and family-friendly activities. Meanwhile, city officials note that heightened security measures at Boom Island Park and other Red, White, and Boom venues were in full effect over the holiday weekend.
St. Paul
A tragic accident is under investigation in St. Paul after a bicyclist died from his injuries more than a week after being hit by an open car door. The incident occurred just after 3:20 p.m. on June 27 in the 1600 block of Hig[bee].
Over on University Avenue, the city is taking steps to reform its safety inspections process. Wes Burdine, the owner of the Black Hart of Saint Paul, is among the local business owners navigating the changes as he excitedly begins construction on a new outdoor tap building for his bar.
Local Sports
The Minnesota Twins had a memorable weekend in the Bronx, taking a series at Yankee Stadium for the first time since 2014. Joe Ryan was dominant on the mound Monday, scattering three hits over seven scoreless innings to secure a 6-1 victory over the skidding New York Yankees. However, the win was slightly overshadowed by injury concerns, as All-Star center fielder Byron Buxton left Sunday's game after reaggravating a hip injury.
Over at Target Center, the Minnesota Lynx suffered a tough 90-89 loss to the Connecticut Sun on Monday night. The loss delays head coach Cheryl Reeve from becoming the winningest coach in WNBA history. The Lynx were also playing without star rookie Miles, and struggled to contain Connecticut's Brittney Griner, who dropped a season-high 29 points and 10 rebounds.
Weather
If you stepped outside Monday evening, you likely felt the warm, muggy air settling back over the metro. Forecasters say daily storm chances are returning to start the week. While partly cloudy skies will persist tonight and most of the metro will stay quiet, keep an umbrella handy just in case a stray shower or thunderstorm develops.
